The ultimate guide to perfect intimate photos

A great intimate shot comes down to physics, not model measurements. No expensive camera required โ any modern phone, a plain wall, and a grasp of the basics will do.
Light instead of retouching
Turn off the ceiling light first. Overhead light hits straight down, carves harsh shadows under the eyes, and exposes texture that isn't even really there.
- Head to a window. Daylight forgives everything. If the sun is blasting straight through the glass, draw a plain sheer curtain โ it works like a professional softbox.
- Let shadow do the sculpting. A desk lamp placed to the side will define your abs and curves. Put the light directly behind you instead, and you'll get a dark silhouette that hides a few extra pounds.
- Pick up a cheap colored light. Blue or red light thrown against the wall behind you erases the "home" feel and makes the shot look studio-made.
Free your hands
Skip the selfie angle. An outstretched arm distorts your proportions โ whatever's closest to the lens balloons in size. You'll end up with an oversized shoulder and a tiny head.
- Lock the phone down properly. Prop it against a mug, wedge it between books on a shelf, or grab a cheap tripod.
- Wipe the lens. Nine times out of ten, a soft, cheap-looking shot is just greasy fingerprints on the camera glass. Breathe on it and wipe with the edge of your shirt.
- A Bluetooth shutter button is worth it. It costs almost nothing and saves you from running back and forth while the timer counts down.
Angles and geometry
Keep the lens at chest height. It elongates the neck. Shoot from the floor and you'll end up with heavier-looking hips and a distorted jawline.
- Break every straight line. Standing perfectly upright kills the shot instantly. Shift your weight onto one leg, arch your back slightly, lift a knee. The body needs angles.
- Sitting or lying down, cross your ankles. It visibly narrows the hips.
- Don't suck your stomach in until it hurts. Your shoulders and neck will tense up immediately, and your face will go stiff along with them.
Screenshots instead of photos
Freezing for a timer countdown is a losing move. The pose comes out wooden and the eyes go blank.
- Switch the camera to video mode and set it to 4K at 60fps.
- Put music on. Move, stretch, toss your hair, shift positions โ don't stop.
- Afterward, just pull screenshots from the clip. Pick the seconds where you look alive and relaxed rather than posed.
Staying anonymous
Shoot without your face in frame. The image often lands harder when the focus stays purely on the body โ and it's your best insurance against leaks.
- Check the background. Distinctive wallpaper, a view out the window, or a stray piece of mail on the nightstand can give away your location just as fast as your face. Cover up any recognizable tattoos too.
- Strip the geotags. Phones embed your apartment's coordinates directly into the photo file by default. On iPhone, this gets switched off in settings before you send anything.
